taman mini indonesia indah

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah
Jl. Taman Raya Mini I, East Jakarta
Tel: 021 840 9270

The enormous Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is one of Jakarta’s top tourist destinations – the crowds on weekends certainly make it one of the most popular. Covering more than 165 hectares, Taman Mini gives visitors a glimpse of the diversity of the Indonesian archipelago in a single location. Little parks are dedicated to each area or different ethnic group in this extraordinary archipelago with re-creations of traditional architectural styles and displays. A richly decorated Balinese style building displays contemporary arts, crafts and traditional costumes from different regions of the country. The complex also boasts an orchid park, bird park and recreational grounds. It often hosts art performances such as wayang kulit (leather shadow puppets) and traditional dances.

The park also comprises several fascinating museums including the museum of Indonesia, sports museum, telecommunications museum, a museum of Asmat culture, insect museum, army museum, transportation museum, Komodo museum and stamp museum. In addition to all these there is the Keong Emas (‘golden snail’) theatre which presents films on a huge IMAX screen. One of the most interesting places is the freshwater aquarium, where the giant Araphaima fish collection will amaze you. This place takes all day and a fair bit of effort to visit, so take your car. Inside there are many fascinating and informative things to see, far too many for one day. Some highlights for kids and adults include the interactive snake display in the Komodo museum and the walk-through bird enclosure. The museum that houses some of the gifts given to Soeharto during his regime has some amazing stuff. Operation hours: 8am – 5pm everyday except Monday, when it is closed. Entrance: Rp. 7000 (adults), Rp. 5000 (children).
